Society pages: new members of house Sylveaston, and house Polonius

This past weekend I had a lengthy chat w/ gothwalk, about 'the thing on Facebook', about social media (he's stepping up as social media officer for Drachenwald), about growing groups and how to do it well.

In the end I asked if he'd consider being my dependent, and he was pleased to agree.

I'm not fully comfortable with 'protege' term, but we'll work on it. (I tried to ask about the source of this term recently, on the Pelican yahoogroup but my msg bounced as unmoderated after 14 days.) He has a suggestion for a term in Irish which may serve us both well.

We'll have a ceremony at Raglan ffaire, where much? most? of his existing household can attend.

Evidently he's just as pleased as me, as the news reached his lady and his friends quickly :-), which can only be a good sign.

Also at this weekend Pan Vitus gave gothwalk's lady Agnes a red belt - they'd been preparing for some time but this was the ceremonial occasion. The belt has passed from Sir Matthew Blackleaf to Sir Vitus through his other squires to Agnes; it's deep red/brown rather than the blazing scarlet of many Society belts.

Agnes and Vitus fought together in the 2-man melee tourney after Crown, which was great to watch.

Have you thought about asking the "ask the Pelicans" group on FB about the origins of the name Protoge? It's a big group, so someone might know (and I wouldn't mind knowing the answer :) ).

Well the first time I pop my head back up on livejournal after a long hiatus (again) and I find out lots of things. For instance I might get to put a face to your name as we're travelling from the Kingdom of Lochac (along with a host of other Lochacians) to visit Raglan Ffaire. That's what happens when you let an Aussie become Prince :) Look forward to meeting you in person after reading your posts on and off for many years now. We're booked under Duena Joie Tigre d'Argentona (or Mistress possibly) and Sir Ysambart Courtin but Tig and Bart are what Elffin would know us as.

We 'let' Elffin be prince? Last time I checked he still had to win a tournament...

But glad to hear if it brings good folks over to see our favourite event. We can't put up plywood baileys and haybale bridges, we have to make do with the real thing. :-)
