...has figured out how to open the catflap from the outside, without it being propped open, just by pushing firmly at it. So half her training is complete - just have to work out the inside-heading-out step, without hooking the propped flap open.

This means we no longer have a wicked evil draft coming into the flat.

And next step is to fix the danged thing so only she gets let in, rather than her guests and suitors too.

(I'd note I never encountered catflaps before I moved to England - Canadians don't cut holes in their doors. Canadian cats ask to be let in and out...sometimes over and over again.)

On cheerier news - my patterns have arrived, all of them. I'm now awash in paper!

Can't wait til the weekend - I'm sick of work. this week, this whole month really.

Can Haggis sure Shauna how to use the cat flap? This one uses it, but looks confused every time she comes in and out!

There are dang good reasons we don't cut holes in our doors...*shiver*
What patterns did you order?
I've ordered the Kampfrau and the Netherlands working woman's patterns from RH.

Willow refuses to use the catflap. She stares mournfully as Loki and Thor go in and our but resolutely refuses to demean herself.

We had a cat flap in Falcon Burlington. It was in a door that was sheltered both in and out so we did not get a draft and also the flap sealed well. Kes has had dog flaps for poodles in a few Canadian homes.

I have seen cat flaps in Alaska but usually opening into an enclosed porch, and then another to get to outside, so it acts like kind of an airlock.

One family I know in Australia have their cat flap built into an upstairs window outside that window is a covered cat climbing/scratching tower, at the bottom of which is the litter box. They have a large chunk of their yard around the cat tower both fenced off and covered over the top with chain-link fence, making the cat area a large cage to keep their cat in and other creatures out.

This means that their cat is not hunting defenseless local wildlife as well as not at risk to cars and neighbors hunting feral cats to protect the local wildlife, and there is no room in their house which smells of cat litter.
