Dragon's Scribes (DrSc) pictures and posts: updated October 2016.

There's a few entries that have no links - when I find a picture I'll post it. I'm astonished I could have missed so many.

Blog posts: instructional bumf (rather than posts about finished pieces)
A calligraphy set for novice scribes
Cheap and cheerful calligraphy guide
Great manuscript blogs and tweets
Scribbling in the margins (corrected)

2016

A writ for the ladies of House Green: a gift for the ladies of House Green, so they can continue their good works with my patronage
An indenture for Genevieve and Sela: the indenture for the pursuivant of my house, Lady Sela de la Rosa
Popular company of sojourners for Marie de Monte: on parchment, with oak gall ink, with a customised ornament for the recipient
Award of arms for James Waltham: on parchment, with my own oak gall ink. Very satisfying piece, small but perfectly formed.
Silver Guard for Alexandre d'Avignon: on parchment, wording and calligraphy by me, abbreviations and short forms by [livejournal.com profile] badgersandjam.
This is probably the piece I'm happiest with of late: the wording was right, the calligraphy worked, and the format of ruthlessly abbreviated early modern English text suited the recipient handsomely. It's about as far from a 'vine and bar' format SCA scroll as you can imagine, which is part of the fun.
Dragon's Pride, Alexandra of Gotvik: illumination by [livejournal.com profile] badgersandjam text and calligraphy by me, for Double Wars court.

2015
Finished Viscounty writ - the first one was a promissory note - for Sir Nasr' ibn 'Isa abu Haroun
Panache for Sorcha bean mhic Dhomhnaill, for Leif and Morrigan final court. Early Carolingian style w/ 3 types of gold. Annoyingly not yet in public domain b/c recipient hasn't seen it yet, so I'm holding off til it's presented to her.
Viscounty writ for Sir Nasr ibn 'Isa abu Haroun, final court of their highnesses Allessandre Melusine and Elffin: Arabic scroll, Arabic text by Sir Garick von Kopke. Hoping to turn the finished work into A&S entry, and discussion of 'how a non-Arabic-speaker does an Arabic scroll' into a paper.
Indenture writ for Aodh and me: stupidly, no pictures of the whole item. I despair even of myself. Pictures of my half: whole item, left half, right half.
A blog post about the indenture, written up as documentation for local A&S display.

2014
AoA for Sela de la Rosa (DrSc): for autumn Coronet, 15th c hand with a quill, transfer gold, text from Book of the Courtier.
AoA for Mícheál of Dun in Mara (DrSc): autumn Coronet, Romanesque initial, early gothic hand with a pen, basic text in English.
Order of the Silver martlet for Olafr in Klakavirki: 12th c hand on a blank by Lady Agatha, which I think was from the psalms as it shows a king tuning his harp, typical of King David illumination from start of the Psalms.

Lindquistringe for Viscountess Lena, photoblog on my own LJ: part1 part2 for Coronation - Romanesque initial with  transfer gold, early Gothic hand with a quill, Latin text cribbed from [livejournal.com profile] aryanhwy

Aryanhwy merch Catmael - Kingdom artisan writ for [livejournal.com profile] aryanhwy for 12th night - secretary hand after 16th c Jane Grey prayerbook, my own text from Henry V's chancery. Kingdom seal, my seal, my seal bag.

Other works of 2013

The hedgepig scroll for Lady Delia, artwork by Lady Agatha, protogothic hand by me with a quill
Alessandre Melusine, Order of the Fox, blank by [livejournal.com profile] badgersandjam, protogothic hand by me with a quill
Henrich Polonius, AoA - in Latin (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] aryanhwy), beautiful Romanesque blank by Katherine of Great Chesterford, protogothic hand by me with a quill
In June at 20 year celebration, I took part in an impromptu class about quill cutting with Mistress Caitlin, who fixed my worst mistakes. I'm resolved to use quills from now on, save the needs of onsite scribing (something I generally avoid).
In August I once more took up the role of principality signet.

Duncan Kerr - Ffraid, Romanesque initial and hand, text drafted by Robert
Matthewe Baker Court Barony: based on grant in Oxford book of Heraldry, writ with space for arms - need to reclaim this, so I can add the armory when it's registered
Harada, AoA - protogothic hand on a puzzle initial ([livejournal.com profile] badgersandjam, I think) blank, done onsite at Raglan for court
Marcus von Stormarn, GoA (DrScr)- classic writ with arms style, secretary hand. Another photo, with its seal.
Some backlogs, all in the same late-period style - no photos, argh
Alienor of Farryngdon, county - 16th c Jane Grey prayerbook style
Elise McGillione, viscounty of Nordmark (backlog) - in 16th c Jane Grey prayerbook style
Maríe d´Alise-SaintReine, viscounty of Nordmark (backlog) - in 16th c Jane Grey prayerbook style

2012-13:
Most recent focused project has been the 30 day challenge - which for me is about gilding - still in progress. All my days are logged in the 30day tag. My thanks to Lady Kerttu for suggesting it!
Some pieces that came out of it:
Gwenllian ferch Andras Order of the Fox: 16th c Jane Grey prayerbook style
Richard and Lena's viscounty (DrSc): 9th/10th c Ottonian style, with [livejournal.com profile] badgersandjam's poetry
Matthewe Baker Rex Sigillum: 16th c writ, initial from Maccelsfield Alphabet book, Robert's text
Earl Paul's county, on parchment written with a quill: 16th c writ, initial from GoA in Oxford book of heraldry (same family of initials as appear in Macceslfield Alphabet), Robert's text
Some links to YouTube, showing people handling real gold - I was looking for technique tips.
Katherine Percival Pelican (DrSc): 13th c initial and hand, on parchment, [livejournal.com profile] aryanhwy's Latin text

Other works of 2012:

Ursula Sturlasdottir's White Martlet - penwork initial and early gothic hand
Kit Trenchard's Lindquistringe (DrSc) - pre 30 day challenge gilding

Joonatan Mikaelinpoika Carhu's AoA - Romanesque art and hand, text by [livejournal.com profile] aryanhwy
Thomas Flamanc's Laurel scroll - on parchment, text by Robert. This was charming to hear read in, because I could see [livejournal.com profile] jpgsawyer reading it on the scroll at the same time.
Melisende Fitzwalter's Sun and Chalice (DrSc) - calligraphy mine, artwork Agatha's, Robert's text
Lena the Red's White Martlet - Romanesque artwork, text by [livejournal.com profile] aryanhwy.
Johannes of Uffington AoA - calligraphy on a blank supplied by Lena the Red, text by Robert, done at the event (no pic) - early gothic hand
Our fealty as Prince and Princess of Insulae Draconis, sent to Sven and Siobhan's coronation, early gothic style
Sir Gerhardt's Albion (DrSc) - 13th c initial and hand, Robert's text. This is my favourite illumination work of my own, so far

2011
Irminric aet Eoforwic AoA - Romanesque artwork and hand, text adapted by [livejournal.com profile] badgersandjamand me
AElfwyn aet Eoforwic AoA - Romanesque artwork and hand, text adapted by [livejournal.com profile] badgersandjamand me
Sorcha de Lenche's AoA - (DrSc) Romanesque artwork and hand, text sourced by [livejournal.com profile] badgersandjam...are you detecting the pattern? This text is in French, so we had [livejournal.com profile] nusbacher read it into court
Solange and Dirik's joint PCS (DrSc) - Romanesque artwork and hand, calligraphy done with a quill
Alenn's Panache (DrSc)- foray into 16th c use of secretary hand (actually based on a *printed* psalter, but the font is modelled on secretary hand)

2010
Margaret de May's Albion on parchment (DrSc) - same 16th c exemplar as Alenn's as above
Kane's AoA (DrSc) - first scroll with a quill. Romanesque illumination and hand - this is one of my favourite results, where it came out the way I pictured it, both hand and artwork. It's often close, but this was bang-on.
Sister Mairi Jean's Panache (DrSc) - only a snip of the illumination; calligraphy also done with a quill. 15th c style after Hunter 409 (Roman de la Rose)
Sir Alaric's Laurel scroll (DrSc) on parchment - secretary hand, text sourced by [livejournal.com profile] badgersandjam. My first peerage scroll
