We're now registered for spring Crown tourney, just have to figure out how to get there. Oh, and tell the crown.

Site looks amazing - I didn't realise there were any castles to speak of in Sweden. Awesome. Even the website for the event looks well planned.

We've decided to aim for early arrival (w/ slightly cheaper fares), and are hoping to throw ourselves on the mercy of friends for crashing on Thursday evening. We want to enjoy the event, and not be rushed, and Nordmark is a lovely place to not be rushed in.

I've seen many of the sights in Stockholm, but Robert has not. I didn't reach the open-air museum, which also looks charming, though probably weather-dependent.

Folks in Nordmark - if there are any must-see exhibits in Stockholm area in April, please let me know.

To practice being somewhere it snows - I get to go home early today.

Snow has started to fall even in superheated London, and will keep it up this weekend. In a country where drivers think 'snow tires' are the ones with chains on, and noone owns real winter boots, it's safer not to be on the roads.

Umm, there are actually quite a few of them... Admittedly most aren't very medieval visually even if their origins may have been medieval.

It looks like a great event. I hope you will have good weather and a good time there.

I haven't been much in Stockholm, but I found the silk weaving workshop on Sodermalm interesting (provided you can get a guided tour). The historical museum was not too much to my liking, but I got to see several famous finds and objects, which was fun.

Yes, that's the plan. Since the winners get to step up at 20 year anniversary event this June, it'll likely have a lot of entrants.

I looked at the costs for the event because yes the site looks lovely. However, we can't really do that, and 20year and our trip to Italy as well!

Don't get me started on British tyres... I have a wealth of snow experience but even with new tyres on here it's hairy.

I have just bailed on a meeting in Oxford because while the roads may be clear now, the meeting will last until 2, and I predict ice. Also, I don't trust the other person's driving at "AM after a 6 hour meeting on ice. Which I can't say politely, so I'm just saying "sorry, will text in."

Fortunately (?) I accidentally poisoned myself with alcohol (it was such a mild-mannered looking chocolate) and have spent the afternoon ill, so there's another excuse...

Interesting format, brunch, early feast, then late supper. Hadn't thought of that set up, I wonder how that affects the mood/atmosphere of the event - possibly less pressure on the cooking team/more cleaning staff, etc.?

I suspect that the format is to accommodate the happy crowd of Nordmarkers who don't reach their beds on Friday night til the early hours (or til sunup), but still want to take part in the full day of activities on Saturday!

I'm looking forward to it myself, though don't see it as an option at all venues.

All the best in Crown. One advantage in arriving early is that Robert will have, in theory anyway, a chance to rest before the tourney.

That's the hope. We've done our share of red-eye flights on bargain airlines, and don't enjoy it anymore. Getting old and crochety.
