weekend in the blessed land of Wokingham
Jun. 9th, 2008 03:29 pm Back from a sewing and gossip-rich weekend chez the splendid lady Anne of Wokingham and Master Paul WINOLJ, along with
purplemermaid, and my sweetie.
Visits w/ A&P are always food-focused - they are dedicated foodies who enjoy entertaining. A is a determined eco-warrior who endeavours to shop carefully and locally, and her garden is full of herbs. It's always a joy to be there!
She lives the way I'd love to - w/in walking distance of work, in a small-but-perfectly-formed home to invite people to, and a house full of book-treasures. (The house is too small for both of them, but they're managing while P's house is being renovated for sale.)
This weekend we had a roast of lamb w/ trimmings (nut roast for
purplemermaid), and strawberry shortcake, w/ freshly-picked strawberries courtesy of the menfolk, who were sent down the road to the pick-your-own farm.
P spent the afternoon experimenting with soaking the berries in various alcohols from the cupboard - a strawberry wine past its prime, a now rather dry melomel - and Robert extended the experiment into strawberry cocktails. Good thing noone was driving!
We also managed some elderflower fritters on Sunday, with elderflowers also picked fresh. Aside from the handy green stem handle on them, I didn't get a great deal of flavour from them, but they were worth trying.
A. is helping me nurse along a long-term costume project - a 16th c Cranach gown of humungous proportions, whose materials were donated to me by
thorngrove.
