This week I sent in my quarterly seneschal's report, and as I wrote realised our group had done an awful lot. We have a group to do things with!
When Robert and I returned to Thamesreach in spring 2006 after almost 2 years in the wilds of WD, the shire was down to about five members. One of the officers was actually just on the books to keep the shire afloat - he'd actually moved back to the US. And the seneschal was moving for a new job.
We had no fight practice, no A&S, no scriptorium, no events either official or unofficial.
We had a full-status branch with a name, and bank account, and a website, and a monthly beer at the pub.
We now have a fight practice, singing practice, stitch-n-bitch, almost monthly revels, beer n' museum gatherings, one official event already done this year, one known world event to come in September, and two events planned for next year so far.
Our shire's cooks prepared two feasts this year, and have more in the queue.
Best of all we have people - this shire is now the second-largest in ID, only a body or two behind Flintheath at 22? paid members.
(We still have the branch, bank account, website and monthly meeting too, but we're at a
better pub now!)
We're entertaining the rapier marshals of the region for the
next couple of revels to teach folks. Several folks are planning to attend
Raglan Fair in September.A small and enthusiastic group of newcomers from the shire have now attended their first few events. (Small is about the only size newcomer groups come in, in Drachenwald!)
I still long for a regular scriptorium, but I don't think I could fit it in. :-)
I have to remember where we've been. I often feel we're still barely getting by, especially when I fall behind on correspondence and promised updates and Things I'll Do, Honest. My Round Tuit supply never seems to improve.
