abendgules: (Romanesque rules)
A friend sent me this link  to images of 12th c. Italian reenactment outfits.

I'm guessing that this is machine-embroidered work, rather than handwork.

The host is a member of the shire of Ranaan in Italy, but I'm not sure if this is his own kit, or that of others - there's very little info attached to the images, unfortunately.

If anyone knows more about the clothes, sources, or their construction, I'd love to hear about it.

Lady Aryanwhy posted this ages ago to a scribes list, and I just recently poked it to find out how beautiful the contents are! Silly Genevieve.

It's a digitized copy of Roman de la Rose, from the university of Glasgow's Hunterian collection. It's helpfully linked to a similar early printed edition, AND has clear modern text to tell you what the words are! Brilliant.

Unfortunately, the digitization  looks like a pilot project that possibly wasn't continued - there's mention of several other books to be photographed and posted, but AFAICT none of them are up on the library's site.

I'd love to know more about the MSS - looks like a Batarde book hand of some kind, and possibly close to contemporary for Chaucer, but from where? English? French? London? Canberbury? Norfolk?

ETA: creation date in the university library catalogue is listed as 1440.
