This past weekend was a major ID event,  Rent-a-don   This is just a short note about some highlights (and changes of plan) from the Rent-a-don weekend )

Many people took time to visit the gothic Lincoln Cathedral, just steps away from the castle. When I visited the boys' choir was singing a midafternoon service to accompanyment of the organ, which made my visit very rich indeed.
I hadn't realized that Eleanor of Castile, queen to England's 14th c. king Edward I (called Longshanks) was buried there. When she died the king, in his grief, had crosses raised at every town where her body stopped on its last journey, and Charing Cross takes its name from that monument.
